Dear participants in the International Bebras Workshop 2020! The first international meeting of Bebras enthusiasts took place in 2005 - in Lithuania, of course. After 15 years of live meetings, for the first time, the Bebras community will meet only virtually. It has not been an easy task to prepare this virtual workshop, and many people worked hard to make it possible. This e-mail reaches you via a mailing list (bebras-ibw2020@lists.bwinf.de) that has been set up for this workshop only and will be removed again some time after. You, too, can use the list to address workshop participants, but communication within the chat system Zulip is much preferred. You received an invitation to Zulip before. But now I have a few things that need to reach you even if you have not registered with Zulip yet. ** Plenary meetings: Webinar registration ** The plenary meetings will be held using a webinar system: GoToWebinar. You need to register for participation in the meetings via this URL: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/6375786861376492560 After registration, you will receive a confirmation e-mail with a personal link to join the meetings. Please keep that e-mail in a safe place; you will use the same link for all plenary meetings of the workshop. A test meeting will be started on Saturday, May 16, 10:00 UTC. Please join if you would like to try out this system. ** Workshop Calendar ** A calendar showing central parts of the workshop program can be accessed here: https://share.bwinf.de/apps/calendar/p/rACxJ3ZZn5EsA9ZX If your browser has the appropriate time-zone configuration, the calendar should display all events in your local time. Use the week view to focus on the workshop week. Click on each plenary meeting to see its agenda. We are happy to add joint meetings of working groups there; group leaders, please just let us know via mail@bebras.org. ** Pre-Workshop Session ** On Sunday, May 17, 10:00 UTC, you may join the pre-workshop session as well (via the webinar system). This is highly recommended to newcomers, but others will probably benefit as well. This meeting will start with a presentation by Bebras Board chairperson Valentina Dagiene. Afterwards, there will be plenty of time for questions and answers about the instructive material you can find (a) in the SVN repository at 2020/Documents/Pre-Workshop-Workshop or (b) via this link: https://share.bwinf.de/s/KDkWPPjP27iTfiw ** Country "Flash" ** The first regular plenary meeting will be on Monday, May 18, 10:00-12:00 UTC. At the end of that meeting, we will ask all participating countries (member organizations, to be precise) to very briefly present themselves. New members (from Morocco, Niger, Philippines, Saudi-Arabia, Syria, Uruguay, and Uzbekistan) will have 2 minutes, all others just 1 minute. The main representative will be invited to speak. ** Hang-out time ** What we will certainly miss at this virtual workshop is the opportunity to meet face-to-face and to socialize with each other. As a compensation, throughout the week, after each plenary meeting, one hour (12:00-13:00 UTC) will be devoted to socializing virtually. There is a delegate lounge for you, and everything from your own fridge is served with pleasure! ;-) You can find the delegate lounge in Zulip. Looking forward to meeting you soon!
